HOW TO DEVELOP BOLDNESS, SELF CONFIDENCE AND OUTSPOKEN TRAIT AS A STUDENT

INTRODUCTION:

Developing boldness, self confidence and being outspoken is achievable, it only requires conscious effort on the part of the individual involvled.

To start with, lets consider the meaning of the Key words; “Boldness”, “Self Confidence” and “Outspoken” The dictionary meaning of the key words are:

BOLDNESS: Not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring.

SELF CONFIDENCE: It is a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities and judgement.

OUTSPOKEN: Frank in stating one’s opinions, especially if hey are shocking or controversial.

Now let me give you my simple explanation to the key words.

Boldness: It means to exhibit triat of being ready to do things that involves taking risks, it may involve taking a step to respond to a question your colleagues are afraid of responding to.

Self Confidence: Self Confidence is to be self assured i.e to believe in yourself and what you’re capable of doing.

Outspoken: The word outspoken simply means to be able to speak out what you have in your mind, that is, to be candid, straightforward or vocal.

To be bold, self conident, outspoken simply means taking courage to do or say what other people may be afraid of doing or saying either for fear of being intimidated or otherwise.

How then cn you develop boldness, self confidence and outspoken traits as a student?

DON’T TRY TO PLEASE EVERYBODY: Most times tryiing to please everybody prevents you from being bold to say what you have in your mind or what is hurting you. A man was oce asked a question, the question was; What is the secret of success? The man responded thus; Well! I don’t know the secret of success but i know the secret to failure, and the secret of failure is trying to please everybody.

Don’t try to please everybody, just please yourself and please God. CAUTION! This does not mean dis-obedience.

If you dis-obey your parents or those that are older than you are, you’re not pleasing God.

What i’m simply saying in a nutshell is that, you should be ready to speak out when anyone hurts

YOUR IDEAS COUNTS: God has deposited so much treasure in people, including you, but if you’re afraid to speak out, then the hiding treasure in you won’t be released. Do you know that your ideas counts? But when you refuse to contribute during discussion, people around you won’t benefit from the hidden treasures in you.

DON’T PROCRASTINATE: There is danger in procrastination. Speak out whenever need arises, take action as at when due. If you procastinate, you may never be able to do anything.

LEARN FROM BOLD, SELF CONFIDENT FRIENDS:

Emulate bold trait in your friends. A friend that is bold and outspoken may influence you positively but be careful of the kind of boldness he/she exhibits, some friends are bold and quick to insult people, never emulate such.

DON’T HIDE YOUR PROBLEMS OR FAILURES:

Seek help, Learn to discuss your challenges or difficulties with trusted people. Note that the most reliable are your parents or school counselor. As a female, avoid seeking help from male counselor except your parent are with you. If you’re inboarding school, you may seek counsel from a female tutor. Just be bold to speak out.

TRY YOUR HANDS ON SOMETHING NEW:

Bold people summon courage to do the un-expected if you’re having difficulty in carrying out a certain task, try to overcome it by tryiing your hands on it.

ASK AND ANSWER QUESTIONS IN CLASS:

As a student, one of the ways to build up self confidence is by asking as well as answering questions in class, it has a way of building up yourr self confidence and it helps you to confront undesirable issues.

BE A CO-PLANNER

Try to involve yourself in planning programmes or activities either in school or at home, it has a way of building up yourself confidence and it will also help you to take up leadership responsibilities.

TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE OF GIVING PRESENTATION:

Make yourself available to give presentation at school, join literary and debating society, you may as well be a member of the drama group. Just make sure you involve yourself in activities that gives you opportunity to speak. It will help you to develop being outspoken.

DEAL WITH INTIMIDATION:

If you feel intimidated when you see crowd or when you’re confronted by others, the solution is to think through on your main points before you voice out and prepare your mind never to get intimidated by whatever anyone says from the crowd but rather be encouraged to forge ahead.

NOTE: PRACTICE LEADS TO MASTERY, AND MASTERY BUILDS CONFIDENCE AND CONFIDENCE LEADS TO BEING OUTSPOKEN.
