Interested In Knowing How To Be The Best In Class? Then this article is for you.

To be the best in class, you need the following:

  1. Determination

To be the best in class, you must first determine that you will do everything morally, legally & academically possible to outshine your colleagues. The time to sit and wait for manna to fall from heaven is over; this is the era of pursuing your desired goal vigorously. You must put in strength in you to make it happen.

In the words of Leonardo da Vinci, “It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”

You need to know that for you to be outstanding; you must first determine to stand out. Becoming the best among your colleagues is achievable it only takes determination. Come to think of it, whether you like it or not someone in the same class will emerge as the best…you can surely be that person.

Don’t think like most of the lazy students around you, their usual slogans are; “I can’t kill myself”, “whatever will be will be”, “I just need a pass”, “I can’t lose my sleep because of one exams” these are mediocre, they don’t want to endure pain for any reason. You have to determine to have your name written in gold, and this can only happen if you embrace the key of determination to be the best.

In the words of Apostle Paul to the Corinthians, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”  – I Corinthians 9:24

Here, Apostle Paul was trying to explain that you need to strive to be the best.

  1.                               Goals setting

To be the best in class, students are expected to set goals every term as from the beginning of each term and write them down. It is also advisable to bring out the written goals every morning and read it out. It has a way of reminding the student of the task ahead of him. For example, a student’s goal may look like this: “I am determined to score the following marks in my examinations this term; Mathematics – 100%, English – 95%, Physics – 98% etc.

Setting goals is the first step in turning what you desire into reality. However, when you set goals, you also need discipline to accomplish it. According to Jim Rohn, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

  1. Have a daily study time

Just as it is compulsory to have a daily devotion to grow spiritually and be closer to God. As a student, let it also become compulsory for you to have a daily study time.

You must revise every topic you were taught in class before you go to bed each day. No carry over.

  1. Listen to News and read materials

A student that desires to be the best must listen to news regularly, read newspapers, journals, Christian literatures and every material that can help improve your vocabulary.

  1.       Form a study group

Iron sharpens Iron! Discover a few brilliant and serious minded students in your class and form a study group with them. The group should be purely for studies, no more! Organize tutorials to explain difficult topics to one another. In case, there is any topic that seems difficult for all of you in the group, appeal to the teacher in charge of the subject to join your tutorial for the day to explain it better. This is best practiced by students in boarding house.

Day students too can take advantage of 15 to 20 minutes from their break time for revision.

  1. Visit the Library

Plan to visit the library at least once a week to revise all subjects and topics you were taught for the week. This should not stop your daily study time.

  1. No Assumptions

If anything is not clear to you in class while the teacher is still in your class, ask questions, don’t assume that you will know it during your personal study time or during your group tutorials.

  1. Embrace Prayers

Remember that we can’t achieve anything in this world without the support of our maker – God Almighty. Set apart time to pray regularly about your concerns, particularly for wisdom and understanding. James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and up braideth not; and it shall be given him”.

  1. Focus is a crucial key

If your desire is to be the best in your class or in whatever you do, then you must decide to be focused and play less. There is time for everything. Ecc. 3:1 – 8 “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; ……….”

  1. Get Private Home Tutor

If your parents can afford it and you’re not in boarding school, let them get private home tutor for you to prepare you ahead of the class, even if you’re in boarding school your parents can get home tutor for you when you come home during holidays, so that the teacher can revise with you before you return to school.

  1. Treat past questions

There are questions that are being repeated yearly especially in external exams. Endeavor to treat past questions regularly so that you can be at better advantage.

If you can adopt the suggestions above YOU SHALL SURELY BE THE BEST IN YOUR CLASS.
